Now that we’ve installed your windows it’s time to decorate them. Whether you are contemplating window treatments for the sake of interior design or privacy, there are certain things to take into consideration.  Window valances are a popular option because they can be installed alone, or with blinds or curtains. They are also a good way to conceal any drapery hardware. When choosing the style of your window valance consider these factors:

  • Bedroom with window valanceBabyroom with window valanceArchitectural Style- The first thing to take into consideration is the architectural style of your home. The style of you home is important because it designates what style of valance will look the best. In traditional Victorian or Corinthian homes formal valance designs work best, and in contemporary homes free form and eclectic designs.
  • Geometry- Your valance design should fit the scale of the room, so keep in mind the width and height measurements of your windows and their location on the walls.
  • Practical Functionality- Will your valances be for aesthetic purposes or function? Although beautiful, the style of a valance can be used to control light, air flow and heat loss/gain of a room.
  • Fabric- The final factor to consider in choosing a valance is what fabric will work well with your valance. The right fabric to match the shape of your valance will bring new life to your windows.
